Announcement: Launch of Our Revolution Week

create a revolution-janaeWe have some big news to share with you! Since Ja-Nae’s book, “How to Create a Revolution: A Step-by-Step-Guide to History’s Social Influencers” is coming out May 3rd, we’ve decided to do something special and help those unsung heroes who have been working so hard to change the world. With that, we are pleased to announce: Our Revolution Week.

What is Our Revolution Week?

It’s simple. From Thursday, May 3rd through the 10th, we will attempt to raise 50K for 5 charities. We will have a ton of goodies for everyone who wants to contribute and Ja-Nae is donating all the proceeds of the book to these 5 charities.

Who are the Charities? We are pleased to be helping the following charities during the week:

Invisible People:
I once heard a story about a homeless man on Hollywood Blvd who really thought he was invisible. But one day a kid handed the man a Christian pamphlet. The homeless guy was shocked and amazed, “what! You can see me? How can you see me? I’m invisible!”

It isn’t hard to comprehend this man’s slow spiral into invisibility. Once on the street, people started to walk past him, ignoring him as if he didn’t exist… much like they do a piece of trash on the sidewalk. It’s not that people are bad, but if we make eye contact, or engage in conversation, then we have to admit they exist and that we might have a basic human need to care. But it’s so much easier to simply close our eyes and shield our hearts to their existence.

The purpose of this vlog is to make the invisible visible. I hope these people and their stories connect with you and don’t let go. I hope their conversations with me will start a conversation in your circle of friends.

Social Media Club:

Social Media Club’s primary mission is to expand digital media literacy, promote standard technologies, encourage ethical behavior and share best practices. We bring together journalists, publishers, communications professionals, artists, amateur media creators, citizen journalists, teachers, students, tool makers, and other interested collaborators. Essentially the people who create and consume media who have an interest in seeing the ‘media industry’ evolve for everyone’s benefit. We are more than just USERS, we are the reason the tools exist – we are the people who communicate our thoughts and ideas near and far. Join us and let’s shape the future together!

Kids Need to Read: Kids Need to Read works to create a culture of reading for children by providing inspiring books to underfunded schools, libraries, and literacy programs across the United States, especially those serving disadvantaged children.

Vision Statement:
All children and adolescents will have access to quality books no matter their race, economic status, or capabilities. Further, our organization will provide inspiring programs to increase literacy rates and decrease dropout rates throughout the United States. These programs will be presented in a manner that will foster and uphold dignity and self-respect. We will consistently demonstrate to children and adolescents the need to read, as we believe literacy contributes to school and life success.

Big Damn Fan Films: Big Damn Fan Films, Inc. is a remarkably different type of non-profit organization. The Browncoat Big Damn Fan Films’ mission is to “increase the awareness of non-profit charities through fan made films”. Bringing a unique combination of independent filmmaking and grassroots fundraising, our focus is creative, thoughtful, and inspiring. Offering much more than a basic non-profit fundraising experience, our unique and effective approach is a refreshing change from traditional filmmaking and fund raising. Check out our current projects below to get a feel for our level of production quality and the stellar volunteers involved in raising funds for some great causes.

Forward Arts: Forward Arts is an arts program and project management organization that often includes initiatives that support and serve the community. Our aim is to grow, sustain and preserve Detroit’s vibrant arts communities and industries. As a model for innovative business practices, our mission-based yet business-oriented organization will provide support and opportunities to artists, art organizations and administrators.

Art of all forms, both in the past and present, have always played a major function in the metro-Detroit area, both to our community and to the rest of the world. Major changes lie ahead for our region and cities and we believe the arts should be apart of that change.

To accomplish our organization’s purpose we have 3 guiding principles we adhere to: develop and cultivate Detroit’s creative industries by providing support, opportunities and leadership for artists and art administrators; support existing art organizations through partnerships, consulting, and business development; and lastly, preserve Detroit’s artistic history and legacy through education and documentation.

Want to Help? Here’s How.

So how do you help create a revolution? There are two ways you can help:

1.) Spotlight a revolutionary: in honor of people doing great things, we would love for you to write a blog post of someone you admire who is doing great things.

2.) Review the book: Launching on May 3rd, is the book “How to Create a Revolution: a step-by-step guide to history’s social influencers”. I would be happy to send you a chapter if the book that would resound with who you are and your audience.

Also, we will provide you a badge for your web site so you can show your support for the charities and the movement.
